Carolina Offers Admission to 5,100 First-Deadline Candidates

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill has offered admission to the fall 2011 entering class to 5,104 candidates who applied by the first of two admission deadlines. The admitted students were chosen from a record first-deadline pool of 14,018 – an increase of 7 percent over last year.

"The students we’ve admitted are terrific, and we’re honored by their interest in Carolina,” said Stephen Farmer, associate provost and director of undergraduate admissions. “It was a privilege for us to get to know these students through their applications – to learn about their achievements and to dream about their potential. We think these students will do great things here at Carolina and far beyond. We look forward to welcoming them next fall.”

First-Deadline Decisions are Available

Thank you all for your patience throughout the past couple days. We have now successfully posted decisions online, but please be aware that there is very heavy traffic on MyUNC this afternoon, so you may experience some delays. Please refer to our previous post for instructions on viewing your decision, and do remember to disable your pop-up blocker as your decision letter will open in a new window.

Please know that we are honored by each of the applications we receive, and we do our best to honor each of you in return with a thorough and thoughtful review. We have to make many difficult decisions, and we have to turn away a lot of smart, talented students who we know could be successful here.

Thanks all. We will continue to monitor MyUNC over the weekend, and keep you up-to-date if any issues arise.

First-Deadline Decisions

Good morning all! We know how anxious many of you are, and we wanted to post a short note to let you know that we are still on schedule to release decisions today, though you should not expect them until this afternoon. We appreciate your patience!

This is the tenth consecutive time that Carolina has earned this honor since the national magazine first began this special edition in 1998.
