Transfer Interest Sessions This Summer

Interested in transferring to Carolina? We're hosting a series of information sessions this summer specifically for prospective transfer students. These events will help you learn more about the transfer application, how we evaluate transfer credit, and resources for transfer students transitioning to Carolina. Also included is a one-hour tour of campus with a current student. Events will be held on June 17, July 5, July 19, August 2, August 16, and August 30. Keeping America Beautiful

We may be a bit biased, but we think Carolina has one of the most beautiful campuses in the world (perhaps even the universe), and it’s surrounded by Chapel Hill – an area Sports Illustrated once named the perfect college town. Clearly, we agree. And we definitely feel that we’re making a contribution to April’s Keep America Beautiful Month.

There are so many stunning sights on campus that it’s hard to know where to begin...

For some, the Greek-inspired Playmakers Theater (pictured above) is Carolina’s pièce de résistance. 

For others, it’s the North Carolina native plants and secret gardens found in Coker Arboretum (pictured above).

Many appreciate the history of the Davie Poplar (pictured above) and there are those who marvel at Morehead Planetarium (pictured below). These are just a few of the scenes that make Carolina so beautiful.

Visiting Carolina

We're honored to have so many people visiting our campus over the next couple of weeks. We've met almost 3,000 people so far, and we're expecting to meet many more in the coming
days! We can't wait to introduce everyone to our vibrant community and tell them about the many great opportunities available here. We're also committed to making sure that each visitor receives a warm Carolina welcome and that no one leaves with any unanswered questions.

I'm very sorry to say that if you have not yet scheduled your official tour and information session, then we will be unable to accommodate you over the next two weeks. All of our sessions are full, but fear not! There are other ways to visit Carolina. Not only do we have self-guided tour maps that you can pick up right outside of our office in Jackson Hall any time day or night, we also have a Tour Carolina mobile app! Both options allow you to customize your tour and explore campus at your own pace. The Tour Carolina app, which you can download from iPhone and Android app stores, even allows you to tour our beautiful residential campus from anywhere in the world.

If you can't come to us, we very well may be coming to you! Check our website to see if any Tar Heels will be in your town in the coming months. And while we may not be able to accommodate you in an official tour right now, we offer information sessions and tours twice a day, Monday through Friday. We're here year round, so take a look at our visit page to reserve your summer or fall campus visit.

Now We Have An App For That!

We're thrilled to unveil our first-ever mobile tour app, which you can download to your iPhone, iPad, or Android right now - just search "Tour Carolina" in Apple and Android app stores! We're excited to share our beautiful campus and the opportunities available here at Carolina with prospective students and visitors no matter where you are – from New York to New Zealand, from the lobby of our office to the comfort of your home. And did we mention that the app is free?!

We know that not all interested students and families can make it to our campus for an actual tour or information session, but with our new app, you can still experience all that Carolina has to offer on you own. All of the points of interest covered in our student-led campus tours are included in the app, so if we miss you on your next visit to campus, this app can serve as your virtual tour guide! Of course, we still recommend attending a regular information session and tour if you can, but this app is definitely a nice option if you can't make it for the real thing.

So now we need you to download our mobile tour app and review the initial version of it – play around, explore, and enjoy! But most importantly, please share any and all feedback – good and bad. Seriously! We want to know what you think, and based on your suggestions, we'll tweak the app to improve the experience for future users.

Early Action FAQs

We have received several questions this week about scholarships and more, so read on for the answers you seek!

Have all Scholarship Day invitations for Early Action applicants been sent?

Approximately 200 Early Action applicants have been, or will be, invited to our first Scholarship Day on February 1. However, if you do not receive an invitation to Scholarship Day, that does not mean you will not receive a scholarship. Our second Scholarship Day will take place in late March.

When will Early Action applicants receive honors and merit scholarship offers?

Honors and merit scholarship offers will be mailed and emailed throughout the month of February. A small number may also be sent in the spring.

Would now be a good time to visit? What’s happening on campus since the new semester began?

You're Invited to...Visit Carolina this Summer!

Ever wonder who’s welcoming you to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at UNC? WE ARE!

As the summer starts to settle in, you might be thinking: “I'd love to visit UNC, but it’s summer…what is there to do?” The Visit Team (left to right: Michael, Kellie, Sean, Margaret, Andrew and Erin) wants you to know that just because school is out, this doesn’t mean there aren’t great opportunities awaiting you. If you’re interested in learning about applying to Carolina and what your life could be like as a student here, you should plan to visit us. We offer campus tours Monday through Friday, twice a day. These sessions include a one-hour information session given by one of our caring staff members. These sessions will give you an in-depth look at how to apply to Carolina and how we read applications. After your information session, you’ll head out with the real Carolina experts, our incredible student ambassadors, on an hour to hour and a half walking tour of campus. You’ll have an experienced- based tour because we want to give you a good idea of what it is like to be a Carolina student.

But the information session and tour isn’t the only opportunity we offer. While you may be out for summer, we still have summer school classes that you can sit in on. Here’s a great opportunity visit a real-life college classroom and get a feel for what your future at Carolina has to hold academically. There’s also a model dorm room available weekdays from 1pm – 5pm in Hinton James.

So we’ve covered admissions, academics and where you’re going to live…what now?
If you want to get the "downtown experience," Franklin Street is the place to visit with more than 300 diverse businesses. It’s truly the heart of Chapel Hill where the famous alumni and visitors have walked and celebrated great sports victories or simply enjoyed a leisurely walk on a Sunday afternoon.

You’ve walked Franklin Street, but now your stomach is starting to growl from hunger. With about 120,000 residents, Orange County has one of the largest concentrations of diverse, multi-ethnic restaurants and eating places in the country. Guess what? If you ate at a different restaurant every day starting January 1, you wouldn’t have to repeat a restaurant until October!

So who’s on campus? Every summer, we have about 7,000 students take summer classes. So students are here, we are here, why aren’t you? Come visit us and see what Carolina has to offer!

Plan Your Perfect Visit to Carolina

Summer is college tour time! We get the chance to meet so many outstanding students during the summer--students who travel from near and far to tour our campus and learn about our community.

If you're planning to visit colleges this summer, we hope Carolina is on your list. The very best way to find out if Carolina might be the right fit for you is to step onto our campus, talk to current students, and picture yourself here.

Our office offers student-led tours and information sessions daily during the week. You can also sign up to attend a class on the day you visit.

But what else should you see and do during your trip to campus? You could spend days here exploring our campus and the surrounding communities of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Durham. Since you probably don't have days (and possibly only a few hours) to get to know our campus, we want to be sure you get to see the things that interest you most.

We asked our Admissions Ambassadors (the friendly students who lead our campus tours) for their ideas about what prospective students should see and do during a trip to campus. We compiled their recommendations online to help you plan your own Perfect Carolina Visit. Check it out.

Find Out What's Happening Around Campus

If you're planning a visit to Carolina this spring, we hope you'll schedule in some time to check out some of the exciting events that are happening around campus. In any given week, our community gets to enjoy everything from improv comedy shows to academic lectures, student art exhibitions, world-class theatrical productions, Tar Heel athletics, and more.

To help our prospective students find out what events are happening on the day they're planning a visit, we've started a new blog called UNC Calendar in Context. Updated weekly by a current UNC student named Cary, we hope the blog will help you all get a glimpse into what's happening around campus. And if you haven't yet planned a trip to visit our campus, we hope this will inspire you to get planning!
