Early Action Deadline SUNDAY October 16

Hello! In order to give you all a little more time on your applications, we'll be accepting Early Action applications through the weekend (until 11:59pm Eastern Time on Sunday, October 16, 2011). See below for more FAQs about the Early Action deadline. Thanks and good luck on those applications!

Is the Robertson app not due til Dec. 1 for all candidates--even Early Action? Also, is it correct that Morehead and Global gap have to be pulled from EA candidates? I don't attend an official nominating school for Morehead, so didn't know if my chances were very good. But I understand I can self-nominate for Robertson.

  2. I submitted my application for early action today, 10/16, but the payment form says my credit card will not clear for several days and UNC won't receive my app until then. Will I still make the early action deadline?

  3. Hi WG,
Yes, you can self-nominate for the Robertson by filling out their application by December 1. You may submit your UNC application under either deadline so long as you complete the Robertson app by their deadline. For Morehead, if you are out-of-state and don't attend a non-nominating school, then yes, you'll need to submit your UNC application for Early Action in order to be eligible for the Admissions Referral Program (in other words, the UNC admissions committee may nominate you based on your UNC application). And yes, only students admitted under Early Action will be able to apply for the Global Gap Fellowship. So yes, sounds like you've got it all right! I know it's confusing, but it's just because the selection timelines for these different opportunities are different. Thanks for the questions!

    Hi Brett,
That's just fine. So long as you submitted your application online by 10/16, you'll be considered for Early Action even if it takes a few days for your payment to go through. Thanks!

  4. Hi, I submitted my application to UNC last night (10/15) early action, but reviewing my final application, my resumé didn't attach. Is there a way I can send it in and have it also considered with my application?

    Thanks so much!

  5. I'm trying to submit my application through CFNC, but it won't load my application. The site has been loading for a long time now, and has made very little progress. What happens if their server goes down/other technical problems?

  6. Nevermind, It worked.

  7. Hi, I submitted my supplemental, school forms, and payment to UNC by the deadline of October 16. Unfortunetly I was unable to submit my common application until October 17th 12:02AM due to the inability to upload my essay.

Firstly, I am wondering if this technical issue will hinder my ability to apply for early decision.
Secondly, there are still issues with the short response (1000 characters) and i was wondering if i could somehow send in the remaining portion of my reponse.

  8. Hi Katherine,
You are welcome to email us your resume to uncsubmit@admissions.unc.edu. We'll be sure it's included with your application. Thanks!

    Hi Will,
Glad it finally worked for you. The server can get quite busy the night before a deadline, so I'm glad you were able to submit your application without too much trouble. Thanks.

    Hi KC,
That should be just fine--we'll still be able to consider you for Early Action. If you'd like to send in additional information or essay, please just send it by email to uncsubmit@admissions.unc.edu.

    Thanks!

  9. Julie,
I have not received an email from UNC with details for setting up the MyUNC account, even though I submitted my common app on 10/12 and it was downloaded by UNC on 10/13. What do you recommend? should I just wait longer? or is there another option?
    Thanks!

  10. I missed the EA deadline. I have read that 80% of College applicants are accepted during the first submission. Is this true of UNC Chapel Hill. Have my chances of acceptance gone down?

  11. Ok so how many teacher recs do we need? I have heard at school everything from 1 letter to up to 3. If I send in 3 will UNC still read all of them?

  12. Dear Julie,

I submitted my application for early action with one version of my Common App essay, but reading back through my other version, I'm really thinking that my other version is much more concise and appealing to the reader. I know this is probably a foolish question, but is there ANY way I could e-mail or fax in the other version of my essay for consideration? UNC is my top choice, and I want to ensure that I put my best foot forward :)

    Thanks,

  13. Hi Anon#1,
You should receive the email within about 2 days after submitting your application. If not, first double-check that it's not caught in your spam filter. Then send us a quick email to unchelp@admissions.unc.edu. We'll be happy to check that your email address is correct and resend it. Thanks!

    Hi Anon#2,
We work very hard to ensure that each student receives the same consideration regardless of which deadline they choose, so you will not be at any disadvantage if you want for Regular Decision. Check out this post for more on our deadlines.

    Hi Anon#3,
We only require one letter of recommendation and generally find that one letter is sufficient. However, some students do choose to send additional letters. If you're applying through the Common App, you can invite up to three teachers to submit recommendations. Thanks for the question.

    Hi KB,
Sure thing. Just send us the correct essay to uncsubmit@admissions.unc.edu. Be sure to include your full name and date of birth so we can easily match it to your application. Thanks!

  14. Hi Julie, I am confused about the deadlines. Under "Deadlines" 10/15 is the deadline for EA and 1/5 for RA. However, we were going by the deadlines listed under "2011-2012 Undergraduate Bulletin" which was updated on June7, 2011. It makes sense that the information is provided for those applying during the 2011-2012 school year. It is confusing since a year is not listed after each date. Since the page was updated in the summer after the 2011-2011 school year deadlines, I thought these were the correct dates. However, your Blog states that the deadline is 10/16. Have we truly missed the first deadline?

  15. Julie,

My best ACT score does not include writing. Should I send that score and my best score that does include writing?

  16. Hi Julie!

I submitted my application for early action, but a few days later I received a letter notifying me that I had won an award. I know that one award may not make a difference, but UNC is my top choice, so I really want to have an impressive application. Should I email a new, updated copy of my resume to be matched with my application?

  17. Hi Anonymous,
I'm very sorry for the conflicting information. We changed our deadlines this year, and unfortunately there are still a few places where the old deadlines got printed. If you'd like to send us an email or give us a call and explain your situation, we'll see what we can do. Thanks for the question!

    Hi Anon#2,
The best thing to do is send us all of your scores and we'll choose your best subscores and put them together to get your "superscore." That's what we'll consider as we review your application. Thanks!

    Hi Elena,
Yes, you're welcome to send us a revised resume to uncsubmit@admissions.unc.edu and we'll be sure to include it with your application. Thank you!

  18. Hi Julie,

I submitted my application for early action and will be taking the SAT again on November 5th. Should I go ahead and send my best SAT scores so far and then send my November scores separately when they are available, or should I just wait and send my scores all at one time after receiving the November scores? Please let me know what is acceptable. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hello! Either way is fine. If you'd prefer to just wait and send all the scores at once, that is just fine. Thanks!

  20. Hi Julie

Just wanted to confirm what are the deadlines for financial aid forms for early action applicants?
    Are there any?
    Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hello, The financial aid deadline is the same for both early and regular decision applicants: March 1. You'll need to submit your FAFSA and CSS/Profile by that date. Thanks!

  22. Is it too late to substitute a common app essay with a different one if I applied early action?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hi there, We've already begun reading applications, but you're welcome to send us an alternative essay if you'd like. Email it to us at uncsubmit@admissions.unc.edu and we'll include it with your application as soon as possible. Thanks for the question!
